REVIEW: The Losers IMDB

MOVIE INFOAction, Adventure, Crime, Mystery, Thriller

  • Producer -
  • Director - Sylvain White
  • Primary Actors:
    • Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Clay
    • Zoe Saldana - Aisha
    • Chris Evans - Jensen
    • Idris Elba - Roque
    • Columbus Short - Pooch
    • Oscar Jaenada - Cougar
    • Jason Patric - Max
    • Holt McCallany - Wade

INTRO STUFF

  • CHUCK
    • trip to Florida for work - Kennedy Space Center looking for Falcon 9...got yelled at by a security guard, good times.
  • MIKE
    • Proposal from hell, Resident Evil 5...
    • My Steering wheel is cool (According to Motor Trend...)

SYNOPSIS

  • In a world where covert organizations use the threat of global terrorism for world domination, one group of covert operative turn on their handlers and are left for dead, seeking revenge against a those who betrayed them.

WALKING IN F&T (FEARS & THOUGHTS)

  • CHUCK
    • Looked fun, Zoe Saldana and Jeffry Dean Morgan
    • Didn't know what interesting methods were going to be used to portray the 'comic book' feeling.
  • MIKE
    • PG-13 action movie? These rarely work...(Borne and SWAT excpetions)
    • I did not read the comic...
    • Two writers with an "and" not a "&" listed - ususally a recipe for disaster...

FIRST ACT

  • Funny introduction of the characters (subtle comic book feeling with the drawings) - bigger knives, weapons, then off to mission
  • The jet looked like a Mig 21, maybe a Saab fighter - definitely wasn't American
  • Longest 8 minutes ever - get in there, rescue all of the kids, start the bus, load the people, and get out in time
  • Wanted to solidify the evil of Max (murder them/children)

  • Beginning was very derivative, much like Clear and Present Danger and Tears of the Sun
  • Death of children was offset by really, really bad CGI of helo
  • Helo and Plane - no help from US military at all...what was that helo they used for the Military?
  • Very Comic-Like in Act 1, then no more - wish it was a little more consistent...

...LATER SCENES

  • They now work at a toy factory, going to chicken fights
  • Dubai
    • Throws the guy off the roof, turned out to be very comedic - loved Max's character -
    • Was I the only one who thought that Max looked like Julian McMahon (Dr. Doom) from Fantasic Four. - No, that was Jason Patric...he chooses his roles very carefully - wonder why he was here?

  •
    • Speaking of Fantastic Four - Chris Evans was Johnny Storm?! - I knew he looked familiar.
  • The snook? - Test looked like the series finale of Lost...lol
    • no pollution - the 'green' weapon of mass destruction - tidal waves, tsunami? It would cause quite the problems...
    • Max shoots the girl for slipping with his umbrella
    • Max has an American lapel pin - CIA? Movie doesn't think very highly of America or CIA?
  • Later meeting with the Indians
    • "We appreciate you meeting in a single story facility"
    • Max had them deliver a Ducati with the bombs...sweet
    • Max shoots the Indian with only 4 shots and his gun was already out of ammo - the slide was locked back?
    • They landed a Challenger 604 in a boat dock?
    • It is a comic book, but....the Ducati would not have penetrated the front of the airplane so easily - aircraft windshields contain bird spitter mods as well as the windshields being next to bullet proof.
  • The exit of Max on a bus - brilliant
  • Fight-Love scene where Aisha and Clay first meet - better than the corollary in Repo Men...and still, technically, PG-13...
  • Jenson's T-Shirts "I [shoot] zombies" was particulary funny.
  • City Graphics made me think of Fringe...distracting...
  • Ford Pinto - thought it might be used as an explosive...no such luck...
  • Goliath Corp - there is a Goliath National Bank in How I Met Your Mother...
  • Satellite Dish was the same one from Goldeneye...also distracting...
  • Jensen was actually using a mouse as he was "hacking" - they hackers in the movies always type furiously...nice to see some "reality.

...THE ACTORS

  • Chris Evans -
    • The shirts!
  • Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Clay
    • Always an entertaining actor
    • One word comes to mind in regards to him "Lumpy."

  • Zoe Saldana - Aisha
    • Uh....it is Zoe, come on.
    • She is both talented and attractive, Megan Fox only has one of those...no comparison...

  • Chris Evans - Jensen
    • Excellent performance
    • Agreed, He was really bad as Johnny Storm, but has been quite good in other things...

  • Idris Elba - Roque
    • Great acting
  • Columbus Short - Pooch
    • Another good acting spot - liked his chiwawa on the dash, funny quirk
  • Oscar Jaenada - Cougar
    • Kisses both girls on the motorcycles - quiet, but perfect for the role
  • Jason Patric - Max
    • Gets my actor award for the movie, loved his performance - he made the comedic scenes actually funny.
  • Holt McCallany - Wade
    • Good dumb side kick
    • Totally would have taken the helicopter down with the 50 BMG roof mounted machine gun on the H1.
    • See this guy here and there, always have to think where from...Fight Club! "His name was Robert Paulson..."

QUESTIONS:

  • Rogue goes rogue? Does this follow the comic book at all I wonder?

THE MACGUFFIN:

  • the snook

CLOSING THOUGHTS

CHUCK Rating: 4

  • Positives
    • Great casting and just a fun movie
  • Negatives
    • A few cheesy scenes, but expected

MIKE Rating: 3.5

  • Positives
    • PG-13 action movie that was actually somewhat intense and not trapped by the PG-13 rating...
    • Quite Funny, generally entertaininig.

  • Negatives
    • Inconsistent Comic Style - do it or not!
    • Derivative of other movies/tv...distracting...
    • Some poor production values...
