From Paris with Love

REVIEW: From Paris with Love IMDB

INTRO STUFF

  • Mass Effect 2...nothing else matters...
  • Plucking around on the guitar, getting Bioshock 2 soon.

SYNOPSIS

  • In a world where terror threatens the highest levels of government, an ambitions burocrat and a rogue agent who plays by his own rules must learn to work together to stop an evil terrorist plot...

WALKING IN F&T (FEARS & THOUGHTS)

  • Stupid buddy action comedy...
  • I am not a fan of John Travolta...
  • At least it is rated R, there will some action...
  • Traditionally afraid of Luc Besson films.
  • I was hoping to be entertained by ol' John Travolta
  • Glad that I did not know the story walking in (good job on the previews in my opinion)

OPENING SCENE (INITIAL THOUGHTS)

  • Swapping out license plates...is Reece a CIA agent...traditioanlly, they work at the consulate, larger picture is not known...Interesting Spycraft
  • Was that Jack Bauer on the phone giving him orders?

OTHER SCENES

  • There was a lot of gunplay, but it was pretty by-the-numbers...baddies rush into the room shooting, good guys have to reload really cool and take them out...
  • Coke Trip was amusing
  • Hot pistol barrel interrogation was new to me...but interesting...
  • Rooftop sequence - really bad stunt double for Wax...
  • Reece is constantly questioning Wax...but after something like 15 times of Wax being right, you would think there would be a little trust...got old...
  • After knowing Reeces' job I kind of guessed his girl was an enemy
  • Quote of the movie (if there was one) 'Wax on wax off"
    • kind of comedic, but I never felt like this was a comedy so John's character felt out of place to me. Kind of like a psychopath amidst criminals; enjoyed and laughed about his massacres.
  • Gun sounds were great in doors
  • The bodies falling while Wax shoots them, crazy.
  • Hated the 'little kid' gang - steal from the guy who's going to buy?
  • Music was horrible; felt like I was watching an 80's flick with the electric guitar transitions
  • Stupid rehashed cliche 'his methods are...'
  • Wax makes him take the drugs so he's look like a drug addict? Then Wax has sex with the hooker? Reaching too far for me.
  • Finally have a character building scene of Reece washing his face from the blood
  • Royale with cheese
  • Volvo turbo wagons are fast, but not faster than an turbocharged Audi - they fight to follow then just pass him and get on the bridge; loved the driver and the James Bond Audi
  • Funny to see him sitting out of the car with a missile launcher for so long.
    • Wind create problems talking on the cellphone? Dumb point, but what the heck.
  • Won't be playing chess on the power cart too long standing beside their Dassault Falcon 900EX in the final scene (Reece pulls out his Desert Eagle)

QUESTIONS:

  • Was Reece in the CIA, did they ever say so???
  • Quarter inch stereo plug to power the bomb, really???
  • He never had any future periodic inspections for wire taps in his apartment with his line of work?
  • In the day of cellphones and communication, why did Wax have to be at the Aids Summit to save the day?

THE MACGUFFIN:

  • The ring, the coke, the fabric??? Will have to think on this one...

CLOSING THOUGHTS

CHUCK Rating: 2

  • Positives
    • Great driving sequence on the highway and great gun sounds...that's about it for me. And if it was Jack Bauer on the phone then add that.
  • Negatives
    • I was confused about the feeling of the movie. Reece and Wax weren't a bad duo, but it just felt wrong with Wax's strange humor

MIKE Rating: 2.5

  • Positives
    • not as predictable as I assumed
    • Travolta actually played something different
  • Negatives
    • Action sequences were kind of boring
    • Not really thought-provoking...
