WALKING IN F&T (FEARS AND THOUGHTS)
- I was afraid that the movie was just going to be a ‘gore fest’ and devoid of an interesting plot. I was gladly proved wrong. I did enjoy the Kill Bill series.
OPENING SCENE
- It was a touch on the gory side, but a very enjoyable movie.
- Loved that the previews - did not give away the movie.
- This is an actual story with a real plot, the previews almost scare you away from thinking this will happen, an added bonus.
- This was an excellent actor filled performance from beginning to end
CHARACTERS:
Brilliant actors – excellent selection for cast
- Col. Hans Landa (Christph Waltz) The German detective
- His character was very well executed with the illustrations, his expertise in languages
- Stole the show with his performance
- Brad Pitt did a good job
- This was not 'his' movie
- Glad to see that the whole movie wasn’t just about him.
- My favorite movie with Brad Pitt is still ‘Seven’. Amazing acting, amazing supporting cast, and of course an amazing script.
- Works well with Quinten Tarentino - First appearance on True Romance?
- Pfc. Smithson Utivich (BJ Novak from the Office) – hilarious to see him in the movie, he is a great supporting actor
- Shosanna Dryfus (Melanie Laurent)
- very good job of being bored and shocked
- The strange close up of the crème on the dessert? What did that mean?
- Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger)
- Lt. Archie Hicox (Michael Fassbender)
- Incredible British accent for having German as his first langauge - funny that they made him the one to pick on in the film for not being from Germany
- Sgt. Huge Stiglitz (Til Schweiger)
- added an almost comical addition to the cast with his over board seriousness
- Samual L Jackson did some narration – loved it
- Mike Myers
- His presence gives you the feeling that there is touch of light humor with a touch of seriousness – absolutely brilliant balance
...OTHER SCENES
- Chapter format – haven’t seen that for a long time
- Great illustrations (old real arguments; the rat and the squirrel) between the German and the French guy – great opening scene
- Builds tension in many scenes via the insane music ‘tromps’, fade ins, slow motion.
- Rescue Jail Scene
- Interesting almost ‘super hero’ scene where they rescue the one German from his jail cell
- Basement Scene
- You can feel the tension the whole time.
- The girl actor almost seemed to set the Brit up by not getting a drink too – it would have been 4, not 3 drinks if she had the drink.
- It is an interesting point with the three, but he could not have done it on purpose because he didn’t know if the girl actor was going to get a drink or not.
- He loves to weave a bunch of plots together, that has been his original forte with True Romance and is a master of creating tension.
- When they grab Brad Pitt and take him to the other building they throw in the subtle effect of the cat running out with the ‘reowrrre’ sound and the dogs barking
- Nice touch – the old footage of the boy with the film reels was from an Alfred Hitchcock Film that took place in a small movie theater too. The theater owner was an anarchist. Sabotage I think.
- Nick names – ‘The Little Man’, ‘ the Jew Killer’
- Interesting twist that the girl goes up to the guy after she shot him and it was an almost deserved treat when he turned and shot her. I didn’t expect his ‘throwing the door open’ though.
- Brings back the ‘joke’ from the beginning of the swastika on the forehead – just like a true stand up. Play on early successful jokes without killing it to execute it again. It is almost like finishing the movie on the point you started with. Like when you are in a conversation and the person starts to talk about what you began the conversation with you know that the conversation is about over, because they are reverting back to the initial points.
- Ending credits – brackets?
- Subtitles - I love that they did the movie in the original languages and had subtitles.
- Saw Terintino’s top 20 and noticed that he loved a lot of foreign flicks, probably 50% were foreign in his top 20.
MUSIC
- Interesting Music, western or 60s
- Music was great, usually do not even mention, but wow. From the jolts of the instruments and the scenes together, it was a great mixture.
- David Bowe had a great song, what a perfect mixture. When I heard his voice I knew that he belonged in the movie – he just matches the natural flow of the movie – specifically the scene where the where the girl is putting on her makeup
QUESTIONS
- Why didn’t he chase down the girl in the beginning or at least try to take a shot? They could have shown her escape in a different manner where the German would not have seen her till it was too late (more realistically).
- It almost seemed like the girl helped the evil German in the bar scene by not getting the 4th drink. Maybe the guy was just hanging out till he could pick up a sign?
- Everyone has their guns with them at the table while they are drinking? I don’t think so, but they had to end the bar scene with those characters dead.
- Quinten Terintino’s best movie? I am still a huge fan of True Romance, which also starred Brad Pitt.
- The girl actor shoots the German in the end?
- Didn’t translate all words sometimes, ‘oiue’ is yes, but ‘oiue’ kept popping up on the screen, any particular reason why?
- The actor girl probably couldn’t act dumb because her shoes looked like they were custom fit.
The MacGuffin:
- The German’s papers in the beginning of the movie – what was in his brief case
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Chuck MacGuffin Rating 4
- An enjoyable story because of the excellent cast and interesting story
Mike MacGuffin Rating 2
